It was bigger than I imagined. My first thought was, Where am I going to store this thing?!? And indeed, that was before we remodeled our kitchen, so storage WAS a challenge. A crock pot got booted out of the cabinet to create room for my new appliance.
Then I took out the instruction manual. I was immediately confused. It had been like reading Chinese. Oh. It had been Chinese. The manual has many different languages printed. Once I came across the English section, things were slightly better; although, it did take reading over several sections several times to truly understand how all the parts and buttons worked.
I knew the only method through that manual would be to actually plug my www.instapotguide.org in and employ it! Maybe wild rice was actually a safe choice. Sure enough, it worked and reduce the cooking time! (Truthfully, the recipe worked perfectly to me, but others have tried it since and also have reported there was a lot of liquid left. More like soup than rice, even though rice was cooked nicely; they simply were required to drain it.)
I understood making bone broth. Which had been simple enough. And I definitely loved without having my crock pot tied up for 3 or 4 to 5 days while my broth simmered. Yet, I couldnt seem to get past bone broth and wild rice.
Figuring Out How To Use My Instant Pot – I truly dont remember the first thing I attempted. Maybe it had been brown rice? Honestly, I dont remember the way it been found. (It was probably fine, or I could have been really discouraged.) I remember being really impressed at how fast whatever it was cooked. I did use the Manual setting, so it was my very first time actually pressure cooking.
Having Said That I also remember being somewhat confused through the instruction manual. So confused, in fact, which i dont know in which the instruction manual is anymore Learning by watching and doing thats how I prefer it. When my pal Wardee announced her Pressure Cooking eCourse, I had been saved! Finally! I could WATCH and LEARN how to use my Instant Pot!
The tips and tricks I learned from the Pressure Cooking eCourse changed everything. I didnt know you could actually put dishes within the Instant Pot I didnt understand what the trivet thing-y was forUntil Wardee showed me! (More on this in a minute!)
When Things Started To Turn AroundI remember it as a when it was yesterday
My partner was coming home for lunch. I had remembered to thaw the stew meat, but neglected to put it in the crock pot for beef stew. Once I glanced at the clock that read 11:07 and he could be home to eat at noon uh-oh, I had been struggling! What was I planning to do concerning the stew? Hardly anything else was thawed! We had no leftovers!
Therefore I improvised. I just started adding my personal favorite spices (cumin, chili powder, garlic) for the meat, used the Saute feature, then pressure cooked it and prayed it would come out. Plus it did! Not only did I make lunch in 53 minutes, I made beef stew in 53 minutes! And it also was delicious! Who does that??? Me! From that moment on, I knew Id be all right. My Instant Pot has become a trusted kitchen friend that Ive since relied on to help make more lunches and dinners in a hurry.
Difficulties With The Instant Pot
A list of pros far outweighs a list of cons, nevertheless it wouldnt be a sincere overview of the Instant Pot without full disclosure in the negatives, too, would it? In my opinion, these are the top 4 difficulties with the Instant Pot:
#1 Smells – The rubber seal in the lid appears to really hold to smells from whatever was once cooked.
